I was already shocked how Carlitos save that incredible forehand but then got shocked even more. That was a Fedal type of rally.

Yeah when Fritz hit that forehand I thought for sure it was a winner, he hit that so clean with ridiculous angle. Those are the sort of shots that just don't come back.

When he got that back in play I was already stunned- and the final backhand drop/smash by Taylor was fantastically executed too.

It's the anticipation Carlos has, you see him get back ridiculous smashes all the time because he has great instincts for where the player is going and gets on his bike before the shot is even played. That coupled with outrageous speed makes for some moments of magic.

Exactly this. Carlos is ALWAYS anticipating the next shot and, as you so nicely put it, is on his bike BEFORE the shot is played. Watch Taylor's feet on that last shot. He reacts rather than anticipates. Had he anticipated that Carlos might actually reach the ball and started moving, he might have been able to at least get his racquet on it. Carlos is quick, no question, but his ANTICIPATION is what makes him otherworldly.

He obviously anticipated Carlos would reach it since he's doing a split step, and was moving towards the other side likely expecting a possible shot around the net.

And although I agree Carlos often shows great anticipation that wasn't the case here, he's mid split step in the middle of the court when fritz forehand crosses the net, he was just shifting back to position which is what every player would do here, he reached that ball simply because he's freakishly fast.

I’ll never forget that crazy return of sinners forehand in 5th set of French open down 6-5. Some of his shots are forever etched into my memory

It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. Even going around the post from there, having run across the court to do it, would've been spectacular, but to find the angle and delicacy of touch to go cross-court at full stretch... To even think of doing it..
