2027 will be a big year for Jannik - coming back after an injury, new coach, looking to defend 5 consecutive Masters...will miss you Darren

Defending 5 consecutive masters would be a crazy achievement.

No way he plays 5 straight ever again. Madrid is not going to see his face for a long time

Jannik after beating Zverev in under 60 minutes to claim the Madrid title

Greatest belt to ass of all time

Didn't he say in Madrid that he can rest during the tournament by taking it easy in games or smth? Didn't turn out to be true in hindsight but he's so funny when he's being casually cocky.

Which movie is this?

Inuyasha but I don't remember which part it is from

hahaha true - no way of knowing his level when he comes back, but hopefully he can play pain-free and play himself into form

He might even skip Monaco if he doesn’t feel 100% fit

Why would he skip Madrid when he can skip Monte-Carlo ?

I would not be surprised if he sits one out, like Alcaraz and he (I think) have been mentioning how it’s important to put health first even if it means sitting out what they can if needed. I saw him make his ATP 1000 record and continually wear down, little by little. Still good enough to beat everyone but by that last one, you could tell he was lower than his normal baseline. Not just competing, but making it to the final of one ATP 1000 after another meant more play time for him than anyone else in that time frame. There’s a reason why it’s so rare. I remembered seeing him win Rome and wondering how he would be recovered enough for Paris. And then I was absolutely not surprised by what happened at Roland Garros.

I think now that he’s done it he’ll probably put more focus on winning RG to get a career slam, and if that means sitting one out I think he would. That’s just my speculation anyway.

I don't see him playing that Masters schedule next year

He ain’t playing Madrid again for a while. But he did tick it off as one more Masters for the masters set.

A lovely message. I like that he paid tribute to Cahill's family, acknowledging that he took Darren around the world and away from them, so Jannik also owed them for his wins. That was classy and perceptive.

And making it about being a good human first, and then being a good player. Also, the time spent behind the scenes meant as much as the glory days.

These things are good and thoughtful reflections.

True , Adding the family and thanking them was so touching and thoughtful . I remember Darren’s family especially his wife present at both Wimbledon finals.

“Better player but first a better human” has been Jannik’s motto now , so looks like one of Darren’s teachings.

And Halep said the exact same thing when they ended their coaching relationship- that he helped make her a better person. I loved reading that about him.

Darren, a great coach and a wonderful human being. I will always be grateful for all he has done for this sport. Thank you.

Can he at least sit in Jannik's box once a year during AO?

I'm not ready to say goodbye. Especially when it has to end like this. Darren deserved a better farewell

20. u/PunsGermsAndSteel · 2026-11-06 11:05 UTC

Sit? He’d better be standing and showing some energy or Jannik will tell him off!
