Jodar will play Ruud or JM Cerundolo in round two

Tabilo needs to get a restraining order on Jodar

He threw his racket and I totally understood why, his face at the end of the match as well 😭

9.6 return rating today…..and Tabilo isn’t even a bad server. 34 winners to 16 unforced errors as well.
This kid’s potential is just wow.

He's played Tabilo an unproportionate amount of times already (5x), which probably means his return only gets deadlier the more he sees an opponent. Maybe he also finds Tabilo particularly easy to read, but for sure he's tough on lefties, we can see that from his first-year-stats already.
It seems the best way to hurt him is a righty slice serve out wide, a good body serve, or even an underhand serve. I was honestly hoping for Tabilo to try that today.

Like you mentioned, Jodar is not as adept at returning body serves (to be fair, they’re probably the most difficult to return) as other serves yet. Sometimes, the slice serve out wide on the deuce court is tricky for him to return too, so I’m also surprised that Tabilo didn’t go for those serves as much.

It is technically impossible for Tabilo to hit a slice serve out wide on the deuce side, as you need to brush around the right side of the ball to get it to move away from the opponent.
Therefore a leftie can only hit a slice serve down the T on the deuce side, or out wide on the ad side, but both go into Jodar's backhand where he's less likely to miss. Taylor Fritz is a good example of a righthander with a great slice serve who's been able to hurt Jodar, he's the only player on tour to have beaten him twice so far.

Jodar is definitely going to be top 5 very soon. Insane return quality. Only problem is no big serve

Well, his new coach can help him there, he is also slowly developing a little more variety. Serve can be improved over time, just look at young Novak, even pre-puke Sinner.

Who is his new coach?

Probably David Ferrer, but it’s still speculation. He was watching him today along with Marc Lopez.

To be fair, they were also watching Merida. So, it had more to do with DC. Not saying that it isn't possible.

Yeah I started thinking that partway through the match. Could just be preparations for Davis Cup. Maybe we’ll see him at Foki’s match too haha

Rumours say that's the reason Ferrer left the Davis Cup team.

I don’t know Davis Cup team coach is a full time job.. but looking toward to the pair

8% of Jodar's ATP matches have been against Tabilo, and Jodar has played Tabilo in 25% of his ATP tournaments

I keep saying they were also meant to meet at Davis Cup this year! But the match was repurposed because Spain already qualified. Crazy for it to happen so much for randomized draws lol poor Tabilo.

Woah I had no idea, that's crazy!
So rough for Tabilo. It took Jodar 1.5 matches to figure out his serve (second set in DC) and from then on, it's been cruel punishment
