This is wild to me, as I never really considered Paris as being an event where the top guys are on top form. Maybe it was Fed and Rafa usually being wiped, but clearly I am wrong as Novak has done a great job

Roger also didn't really care about Paris that much as he was committed to playing Basel the week before and would often skip or withdraw from it to save himself for YEC

Novak basically benefitted perfectly from it switching to hard court over carpet, and then playing slower and slower throughout most of the 2010's. It was pretty much perfect for his game style

Roger was scared of the competition that’s why he played Mickey Mouse Basel instead where he could feast on challenger mugs

Tbf Roger is from Basel so it makes sense that he played there xD

I hope people understand you are just baiting since you did not put "/p" or something like that.

But yeah, it's kind of wild how both Fed and Rafa did not like playing in Paris-Bercy until the end of the 2000s.

Though Federer would always prioritize Basel. Even when the tournament was an ATP 250, he still played it instead of Paris...

Obviously you're trolling right?! Cuz pretty much every tennis player would wish to play on home soil.

I would push hard for a big tournament in my glorious New Jersey :)

Yeah I know get a load of all these Challenger mugs (made the final every year he played in this period btw)

Also didn't realise the final was played Bo5 until 2007, or that Novak got bagelled by Nishikori in the 2011 semis here

Jarko! That’s a name I haven’t thought about in years! Solid player.

Novak excelled at faster surfaces. It is 2026, when do you get it.

There is a reason he is THE GOAT. Start of the season, kills it. End of the season, kills it.

It doesn’t matter when or where, you’re getting the smoke.

Mid of the season, kills it 😁

He’s the goat but I am tired of him loosing

Its his last chance to make the ATP finals! Idemo!

16. u/erkomap · 2026-11-02 15:42 UTC

I love him to death, but ain't no way he is reaching ATP finals

17. u/CyborgBee · 2026-11-02 15:58 UTC

If he wins the tournament he makes it. Not likely, but not completely impossible, because the conditions should pretty much suit him perfectly

Is there any chance of someone else in the top 8 not being able to play? A reserve spot is within reach.

Cobolli potentially but I think he'll recover by then.

Khachanov and Rune.

Both grand upsets. Both 1st and only one M1000 so far
