Daniil Medvedev has played both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner multiple times in their rise to the top of men's tennis.
Medvedev was beaten by Alcaraz in his most recent match at the Vienna Open , which brought an end to his seven-match winning streak after winning the title in Almaty last week.
This was the 10th time Medvedev had played Alcaraz , in a head-to-head that he now trails 7-3.
Medvedev is also behind in his rivalry against Sinner , and prior to his most recent match against Alcaraz he admitted that he has changed his mind about who is the tougher opponent to face.
Medvedev spoke to Russian outlet Bolshe following his victory at the Almaty Open , where he was asked about Alcaraz and Sinner, who are still considered by many to be the best two players on the ATP Tour , despite Alexander Zverev becoming world number one .
The Russian admitted that he previously thought that Alcaraz was the tougher of the two players, but Medvedev now believes that Sinner is more challenging to play.
"Alcaraz or Sinner, honestly both are tough," said Medvedev. "A couple of years ago I'd have said Alcaraz is much tougher, now I'd say Sinner is tougher.
"Sinner, even this year, how many matches did he lose? Three, four? I played him once and actually played well, made him run, but it's tough. With Alcaraz it still feels like there is a small chance it might not be his day. He'll miss a bit, but out of sorts. With Sinner, in the last two years, matches like that are very rare."
Medvedev's comments are reflected in his head-to-heads against Sinner and Alcaraz. Medvedev won his first-ever match against Alcaraz, but has never led their head-to-head since.
However, Medvedev's head-to-head against Sinner has completely turned on its head, as the former won their first six matches, but has lost 10 of their 11 since then, showing the improvements the Italian has made in recent years.
Overall Head-to-head
Sinner beat Medvedev, 6-2 5-7 6-4 (Italian Open semi-final – 2026)
Alcaraz beat Medvedev, 6-4 7-6(2) (Vienna Open semi-final – 2026)
Medvedev will not be able to play Sinner, who has already ended his season due to a knee injury, again this year, but he could play Alcaraz again next week at the Paris Masters .
In 2020, Medvedev won the Paris Masters and he could have to beat Alcaraz if he is to be triumphant in the French capital once again. Medvedev receives a bye to the second round as the fourth seed, where he will face either Ignacio Buse or Zizou Bergs.
Some of the potential threats to Medvedev in his half of the draw include Alcaraz, Flavio Cobolli and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina . While Alcaraz is the most likely opponent for Medvedev if he reaches the Paris Masters semi-finals, the Spaniard has never surpassed the quarter-finals at this tournament before.
The Paris Masters is one of two tournaments where Medvedev could face Alcaraz this year, as he has also qualified for the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, where he will make his seventh appearance after missing the tournament last year.
Before then, Medvedev will play at the Paris Masters, where the main draw gets underway on Monday, November 2.
