Vacherot will play Fils or Fritz in the semi final

Rune was better in 90% of rallies. He just couldnt serve nor return at all.

Vacherot seem to have the skill to almost always be the worse player but still end up winning.

That's basically been the story for a huge chunk of his career losses lol

For his whole career he's had all the weapons in the book in rallies but also loses the serve/return battle in like 70-80% of his matches

One of the players that would benefit the most if tennis was played with only one serve

Which is actually an interesting thought.

Without so much emphasis on the first serve we would see better and more beautiful tennis. That’s for certain.

More technical players would evolve as well.

How would the players coming out be more technical? At best, they would have a different skill set. Big serving and returning big serves are also very “technical” skills.

it would just flip to games being held being the norm. People are way too good at returning now

7. u/Gavina4444 · 2026-10-30 15:46 UTC

How would making serving harder make holding easier

8. u/TheWesternCwm · 2026-10-30 15:57 UTC

He means that it would be the norm of seeing who played better would be by looking at who held more because holding would be harder than breaking because returns are too good now

That perfectly describes Rune as a player

Definitely not 90%. Idk exactly what they qualify as baseline but the stats at the end showed 47 to 47 on baseline rallies. He definitely hit more non ace winners (34 to 12 lol) but more forced errors as well (39 to 19). Unforced errors he was actually a bit lower at 19 to 21 but ofc the unreturned serve rate was a pretty big difference at 38% vs 28% in Val’s favor.

Free tennis fans from thinking that "most groundstroke winners = better player in the match." It's reductive and very often wrong.

Aesthetically pleasing scoreline

Damn Vacherot switch gears in that final set.

Also good to see Rune playing at such high level .

14. u/dkcphman · 2026-10-30 15:20 UTC

He didn’t switch any gear. He’s the same serve machine as always. Just Holger that didn’t cut it.

15. u/GreenBeanz21 · 2026-10-30 16:11 UTC

Yea that’s what I saw. Vacherot kept the same level throughout, rune was just up and down

16. u/pizzainmyshoe · 2026-10-30 15:20 UTC

Overall, a very positive week for Rune.

17. u/princess_piglet22 · 2026-10-30 15:17 UTC

Holger stayed really calm today I thought, even Aneke was looking very calm and enjoying the match!!

18. u/Griim0ire · 2026-10-30 15:17 UTC

Really good effort from Rune

Honestly, this is a massive win in the grand scheme of things for Rune imo!

Taking a three setter against Vacherot - who was absolute lighting behind his serve with 20 aces—right after saving a match point against Hurkacz? I’m optimistic abt his comeback

That’s why he’s the Vachegoat!!
