Seven times is impressive.

Medvedev is such a strange player to evaluate sometimes because people focus so much on what he hasn’t won lately.

But qualifying for the year-end finals seven times means you’ve been one of the best players in the world for a very long time.

That kind of consistency is easy to underestimate.

He has a pretty strong case as the most accomplished player with 1 Slam

I think it's hard to dispute by pure numbers. The contestants gotta be Muster (a lot more titles, but even more extreme one-surface player and zero slam finals outside of the one he'd won) and Roddick (has a year-end #1 and slightly more titles - Med might surpass him - but mostly "tougher era" vibes).

His injury has cratered his chances, but he's still more constantly good than most of the tour. Can still lose to anyone at any point, but over a large amount of matches he averages out in the top10.

I genuinely think he could win it

He definitely has a chance since no sinner and indoor hard is probably where Alcaraz most prone to lose

7. u/Practical_Range4796 · 2026-10-30 16:54 UTC

I don't. I don't think he can beat Alcaraz and he will have to do that at least once ... and yes I know he beat Carlos in Indian Wells but that was a one off rather than a sign he can do it consistently

It wasn't a one-off he played wat better than Alcaraz in that semifinal. That was also an Alcaraz who just won AO so it's not like he was in bad form. Medvedev was also 4-0 up against Sinner in the Second Set that final and he had previously taken Sinner to a Tiebreaker also in the First set before Sinner just went berserk mode from being 0-4 down.

Nice job, Meddy. The Maldives can wait.

Next year needs to start doing well at the Slams

12. u/Dependent-Effect6077 · 2026-10-30 14:34 UTC

Yup his 2025 Slam losses were one thing because 2025 Medvedev was just not good anywhere but this year there’s been a massive mental drop off in best of 5 compared to best of 3

His best of 3 metrics in 2026 are pretty similar to Zverev’s there’s no real reason other than mentality that he didn’t even take remote advantage of the openings at Slams this year

13. u/gamelover99 · 2026-10-30 14:37 UTC

Yeah for sure. I’m not even saying he should win but not even making a QF at any of the HC slams is quite bad

14. u/Practical_Range4796 · 2026-10-30 16:53 UTC

And, like Rublev, that is now two full years without a QF at a slam of any type with a 9 wins and 8 loss record over 2025-2026. If he can turn that around in 2027 and make the quarters or semis again he could even return to the top 4 and yes I will be cheering for him to win a slam in 2027, especially the AO

He's one of the top 3 favourites for it. Although it depends on which version of big event Medvedev shows up.
