I really am looking forward to seeing Alcaraz in Turin to get a gauge on where his current level is
It's so hard because he's Alcaraz so will always play a lot of great "eye test" points but obviously he isn't 2025 peak Alcaraz right now coming back from injury the question is how close is he to there
Every match he's making a ton of insane winners and a ton of WTF errors I want to see what the balance looks like against top players heading into the AO

Carlos’ second set siesta + HC indoors + tiebreaker = whatever that was
As Carlos fans, we legit go through everything 😭 but seriously I’m glad that he had his serve and clutchness when it counted. I was afraid that we were going to be dragged into a third set.
The level from the first set though >>>

Bashiashvili threw the tiebreak

Tbf Carlos was throwing as well, way too clutch when he was behind and way too unclutch when he was ahead😭

Both of them had some shocking points in that TB. Basilashvili going the wrong way with the volley on SP and Carlos missing a wide open court with Basil on the floor.

Both Alcaraz tiebreaks this tournament have been hilarious for different reasons
Yesterday's was funny because of how little Karen had to do with it either way every single point was either an Alcaraz highlight winner or Alcaraz horrible UE
Today was funny because of how both of them absolutely refused to close out the set

I think a lot of it is that his footwork isn’t at top level since his return. He’s more consistent on the run, whereas he’s missing rally balls where his feet sometimes set too early. It’s weird. A lot of his set points were on his own serve, so he’s theoretically hitting less on the run and therefore making more mistakes

Tommy Paul must be so fucking sick of Carlos by now

It feels like ever since Alcaraz lost a couple early matches to Paul he always peaks against him lol
That USO match had us all thinking the injury rust didn't exist and Alcaraz was romping to the title

I think he’s just an extremely familiar matchup for him now. I liken them to Shelton Sinner

Not in Canada...at least.

Another classic from Carlos "The heart attack" Alcaraz

World no. 1 adversity farmer strikes again.
Seriously though that tiebreak was absolute cinema, and I was impressed with how well Alcaraz managed his slightly untidy level during the second set.
